We (a group of five) are going to Japan at the end of 2002 (Dec. 28, 2002-Jan. 7, 2003). We plan to visit Hakone, Tokyo, Takayama (Gifu), and Kyoto. The itinerary is as follows. Can someone please give us some suggestions/comments about our itinerary?
I apologize for having to use English. I can''t guite figure out how to use my NJStar Chinese input properly.
Day 1 Dec. 28 Sat. Taipei to Tokyo then to Hakone
Day 2 Dec. 29 Sun. Hakone
Day 3 Dec. 30 Mon. Hakone to Tokyo
Focus on Central Tokyo: visit the Imperial Palace and Akihabara Electronics District. Then Ginza streets till the nightfall.
Day 4 Dec. 31 Tuesday Tokyo
Focus on Central and Western Tokyo. We can do 東京觀光巴士半日遊 in the Morning, visiting Tsukiji Market (eat Sushi), Diet Building, Meiji Shrine and Tokyo Metropolitan Government Offices. Or visit these places by ourselves. Can also visit Hama Detached Palace Garden.
Evening: Have our own New Year’s eve party! May go to Senso-Ji for New Year blessings after midnight.
Day 5 Jan. 1 Wednesday Tokyo
Focus on Northern Tokyo. Early morning visit Senso-Ji Temple for new year’s good luck. Visit Tokyo National Museum and Ueno Park (whole day).
Day 6 Jan. 2 Thursday Tokyo to Takayama
Depart for Takayama in the morning. Check in to the hotel (the Rickshaw Hotel if possible). Visit the Hida Folk village (can rent a bike to get there). Then visit the Sanmachi Suji district.
Day 7 Jan. 3 Friday Takayama to Kyoto
Morning visit the morning market and then Kusakabe Heritage House. Depart for Kyoto in the afternoon or evening.
Day 8 Jan. 4 Saturday Kyoto (possible day trip to Himeji-Jo)
Early morning depart for visiting Himeji-Jo if possible (40 minutes away from Kyoto). Come back to Kyoto in the afternoon, then visit the Pontocho Alley.
Visit Kiyomizu-Dera from Ninen-zaka and Sannen-zaka (at least half a day)
Day 9 Jan. 5 Sunday Kyoto
Focus on both western Kyoto: visit Nijo Castle (at least half day), Kinkaku-Ji (and the Imperial Park if possible.)
Day 10 Jan. 6 Monday Kyoto
Focus on the east Kyoto: do the Philosopher’s walk. The walk includes Ginkaku-ji, Nanzen-ji and more (about 2.5 km). Can have yudofu (yammi!) in the precincts of Nanzen-ji. Then visit the Imperial Park, Sanjusangen-do, Eastern Gion (Geisha district) and Higashiyama.
Day 11 Jan. 7 Tuesday Kyoto to Tokyo to Taipei
